The most comprehensive exhibition of Aydan Murtezaoğlu and Bülent Şangar, prominent figures of contemporary art in 1990s’ Turkey, is held in SALT Beyoğlu. Taking its name from the term used for narrative inconsistencies in cinema and literature, the exhibition serves as a metaphor for the convergence of the two artists’ practices around collaborative works and to the hiatus they encounter in the exhibition histories.
The practices of Murtezaoğlu and Şangar are both individual and cooperative. They are “interlocutors” who think, make sense and maneuvers alongside the artists rather than conceptualising a passive viewer. Continuity Error, developed over an intense, two-year-long preparatory period, offers a selection of works revealing overlaps, discrepancies, and interactions among their individual and collaborative practices.
The exhibition can be visited until 22 July 2018.
